The Tattooist of Auschwitz

Heather Morris meets Lali Sokolov in 2003 to write his life story: As a young man, he was deported by the Nazis to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Lali is at the mercy of SS man Baretzki's brutal despotism. Nevertheless, he allows Lali to make contact with Gita, the young woman who immediately enchanted him.

Lali is ordered by Baretzki to choose a new tattoo artist. He decides in favour of the homosexual Leon. Because Gita has an infected wound, Lali tries to get her some medicine.

Stolen goods are discovered in Lali's parlour. An SS man then has him beaten up by a strong prisoner. But the latter knows exactly how to avoid serious injury.

There is a young pregnant woman in Gita's barrack. It is clear that she will not survive if the guards find out about the baby. In this hopeless situation, the women stand together.
