Three months after his arrest, Lucious tries to run Empire Entertainment while in federal lockup; Cookie stages a star-studded concert in support of Lucious while Andre, Hakeem, Anika and Mimi Whiteman attempt a hostile takeover.

Cookie and her cohorts decide to start their own small record label, but it's off to a bumpy start as everyone has different visions for the new label.

Cookie and Anika work together behind Lucious' back to pull off a surprise performance that catches the eye of Pitbull. Meanwhile, Lucious tracks down Frank Gathers' daughter, Young Ma, to try to convince her to sign with him at Empire, while Hakeem is hard at work on his girl group, Mirage a Trois.

Despite their feud, the Lyons decide to collaborate on a project that will benefit both companies; Lucious wants to make Vernon disappear.

Cookie and Anika work with Laz to throw an event to launch their company, showcase their artists and premiere a song written by Hakeem; Jamal works on his music with Ne-Yo; Hakeem begins a relationship.

Hakeem left at the altar, Lucious and Anika married and Anika and Rhonda fighting on the roof – until someone falls. Also, Lucious pursues his music legacy with his streaming service, while clashing with his half-brother, Tariq, who is leading a federal task force investigating him.

In an attempt to cope with life after being shot, Jamal teams up with businessman Angelo Dubois, to talk about gun violence and host a summit for awareness. When he tries to perform again, things don’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Lucious attempts to win over Cookie, Hakeem starts to record new songs with Shine, and Andre runs into some trouble with the police.

Cookie calls in a favor with mega-superstar Kitty to record a new song with Jamal, hoping he will overcome his inability to perform. Meanwhile, Andre runs into some trouble and things don’t go as planned. Cookie and Lucious are at odds, Hakeem and Gram fight for Tiana’s attention, and things heat up between Cookie and Angelo Dubois.

Things heat up between Cookie and Angelo, so Lucious finally recognizes Angelo as a formidable rival and prepares to take him on. Meanwhile, Jamal is finally able to face Freda Gatz, a big first step on his journey to recovery.

Lucious and Andre are on high alert as they wait for Shine to retaliate after their latest business encounter went south. Jamal, who has yet to perform in front of his fans, teams up with Hakeem for a performance that he thinks could help him face his fears.

Lucious makes his first public appearance after the explosion in Las Vegas; the Lyon family members each have their own interests in Lucious regaining his faculties.

With Leah still insisting that he is a monster, Lucious sneaks away in hopes of finding out what type of person he was before the explosion. Cookie panics that Lucious has gone missing on Claudia's watch, until she realizes he found his way to Uncle Eddie, a music icon who has since become family to the Lyons.

When Cookie is denied a line of credit, she flashes back to her years in prison and compares her past struggles to her life now. Lucious continues to struggle with demons of his own and begs his family to tell him about the ways he's wronged them, but they are reluctant to tell him the truth.

The race is on when Cookie announces that the number one album for Empire's 20-For-20 will be a competition between all of the label's top artists, giving Jamal a bold idea for his newest song.

When the secret about Lucious' memory is exposed, Cookie attempts to convince the board that he is fine by inviting the press to watch him produce the first 20 for 20 album. Eddie Barker (guest star Forest Whitaker) jumps in to help Lucious get back in his groove and make music in the studio.

Two years after losing Empire to Eddie Barker, Cookie and Lucious are still in the midst of picking up the pieces. The family is now completely dispersed and coping in their own ways after experiencing unimaginable tragedies.

Cookie and Lucious learn the difficulties of launching an artist without Empire Entertainment's resources, and their future with new artist Treasure is jeopardized.

Cookie and Lucious rely on the family and old allies to get back in the music game.

The Lyon family works to get back in their groove with a brand-new project underway. As Cookie and Portia attempt to sign Devon, who has just the sound they’re looking for, Andre tries to prove himself useful to Lucious on the business side of things.

Lucious and Cookie prep their new artist, Devon, for a premiere listening party, but worry he may not be ready for that kind of pressure. Hakeem is determined to convince Tiana that he has matured, but she has a hard time letting go of everything they’ve struggled through the past couple of years.

The Empire has been splintered. Lucious is on the run from the FBI as a fugitive. Running the Empire throne is Andre, who encounters competition for company control. Meanwhile, Cookie has moved on and has become a popular TV personality.

Cookie confronts Damon about why he lied to her; Andre is forced to deal with an unforeseen family complication; Becky and Giselle try to get the star power they need from their first Bossy Media artist; Tiana helps Devon find his sound.

Lucious' plan to escape finally comes to a head; Cookie finds herself in a dangerous situation with Damon; Andre is haunted by a ghost from his past that he can't seem to shake; Tiana receives backlash over a social media post.

A happy family occasion brings the Lyons back together but no one is able to agree on anything; Lucious comes face-to-face with demons from his past; Cookie reaches a breaking point; Andre encourages Tiana to smooth things over.

Lucious tries to make amends for his wrongdoings with an old friend; Cookie vies to take control of the house; Andre and Lucious go head-to-head in a competition to figure out the direction Empire should be heading in.
